Hunters Score Big Win with Passage of Congressman Jeff Hurd’s Wetlands Conservation and Access Improvement Act
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jeff Hurd (CO-03) secured a major legislative victory with House passage of the Wetlands Conservation and Access Improvement Act (H.R. 2316), his first bill to advance through the chamber. The bill extends the timeline for interest earned on the Wildlife Restoration Fund to accumulate longer before being spent, boosting future resources for habitat restoration and wetland conservation. By investing these dollars now, the legislation will strengthen future hunting access, support healthy ecosystems, and ensure long-term funding for waterfowl habitat.
“This legislation supports hunters, improves wetland health, and ensures future generations can enjoy the outdoors. It expands hunting opportunities and delivers real benefits for conservation efforts across the country,” said Rep. Hurd. “I’m honored to get this win for our hunters, wildlife, and America’s outdoor heritage.”
“Our committee will always work to promote access for sportsmen and women, as well as the conservation of our nation’s rich wildlife,” said House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman. “I thank Mr. Hurd for his work to reauthorize this vital source of funding and look forward to moving this bill through the legislative process.”
The bill also boosts funding for the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA)—a proven, bipartisan program that restores wetlands and protects waterfowl habitat across North America. Through strong public-private partnerships, NAWCA has helped conserve over 32 million acres of habitat while expanding outdoor opportunities nationwide.
