U.S. Rep. Will Hurd spoke to News 4 San Antonio on Saturday about the new project as he toured the San Antonio Food Bank Farmer's Market on the city’s West Side.
Hurd has been named to a committee that will monitor the activities and travel of Americans headed to Syria, also known as the “foreign fighter pipeline”.
"There are several hundred Americans that have gone into Syria to fight with ISIS. And we're looking at that issue and how we make sure, they don't come back and perpetuate some act of terrorism here in the United States," he says.
Hurd added that he is planning a trip to speak with Turks and Iraqis about the issue. The task force will also take a look at the use of authorized military force to combat ISIS.
