Press Release

WASHINGTON – Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) today announced local public housing authorities (PHAs) will receive a second round of funding through the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program provides assistance to vulnerable populations to ensure access to proper housing.

“All Texans are battling the global pandemic, and they need continued assistance to make it through. This additional $3.8 million for local housing authorities will help ensure proper housing for low-income families, the elderly and disabled in communities across the 23rd Congressional District. The CARES Act has helped Americans in many ways, from aiding small businesses to increased testing, and it’s good to see it continues living up to what it was meant to do: Care for Americans nationwide.”

The following HCV funding allocations were made to local PHAs:

  • San Antonio - $2,280,641
  • El Paso - $879,230
  • Anthony - $66,018
  • Bexar County - $292,171
  • El Paso County - $25, 353
  • Del Rio - $92,472
  • Eagle Pass - $58,579
  • Crystal City - $16,295
  • Devine - $6,004
  • Alpine - $6,312
  • Carrizo Springs - $13,947
  • Pearsall - $13,359
  • Dilley - $3,376
  • Cotulla - $6,752
  • Uvalde - $32,299
  • Terrell - $74,130
  • Fort Stockton - $10,865

Earlier this year, Hurd announced an initial round of $2.8 million in HCV grants for PHA’s across the 23rd District of Texas. The additional funding is also a result of the CARES Act, which Hurd helped pass into law in March.
