Hurd Announces Funding for Local Housing Authorities
WASHINGTON – Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) today announced additional Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) for local public housing authorities (PHAs) through the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program provides assistance to vulnerable populations to ensure access to proper housing.
“Ensuring Texans have access to proper housing is a key priority of our communities, especially in this pandemic. I’m proud to announce additional funding—as a result of the CARES Act—is going to housing authorities in TX-23. These funds will ensure tenants can remain in their homes and focus on slowing the spread of COVID-19. This has the potential to make a huge difference across our communities through physical and emotional health.”
The following funding allocations were made to local PHAs:
- El Paso County - $70,626
- City of Devine - $9,304
Hurd announced an initial round of $2.8 million in HAP grants for PHAs across the 23rd District of Texas in May, and the second round of funding in August. This additional funding is also a result of the CARES Act, which Hurd helped pass into law in March.
