Hurd Announces Grant to Improve School Safety in Sabinal
WASHINGTON – Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) today announced Sabinal Independent School District in Sabinal, Texas will receive a $213,785 grant award through the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS).
“As the new school year begins, the safety of our students and educational facilities must be a top priority. Sabinal Independent School District has done a tremendous job prioritizing students’ safety, and, with this grant from DOJ, the school district will be able to do more to keep their students safe and allow students and parents to focus on their education,” said Hurd.
The Students, Teachers, and Officers Preventing School Violence Act of 2018 gave the COPS Office authority to provide awards directly to states, units of local government, Indian tribes and public agencies (such as school districts and law enforcement agencies) to improve security at schools and on school grounds.
