Hurd Continues Support for Veterans by Expanding Educational Opportunities
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Will Hurd (TX-23) joined his colleagues in passing a bipartisan measure to ensure increased educational opportunity and job placement for veterans through apprenticeship programs and initiatives.
“Through workplace and classroom education, apprentices gain valuable knowledge and credentials, drastically improving their future career trajectory. Studies show apprentices who complete their program earn approximately $300,000 more during their career than non-apprenticeship workers,” said Hurd. “This bipartisan bill will aid veterans in transitioning back to civilian life by allowing them to utilize their unique skills and enabling more Americans to obtain relevant skills and high-paying jobs should be a priority for us all. After everything veterans have done for our nation we owe it to them to set them up for success following their service.”
The Support for Veterans in Effective Apprenticeships Act would require that veterans are included in Department of Labor (DOL) standards for registered apprenticeship programs and improve coordination between DOL and the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure veterans can use their GI Bill benefits to support their apprenticeships.
The bill now heads to the president’s desk for signature.
