Hurd Meets with Guatemalan Ambassador
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Will Hurd met with Guatemalan Ambassador to the United States Emanuel Espina. They affirmed the importance of U.S.-Guatemala bilateral cooperation and discussed a range of issues, including Guatemala’s efforts to strengthen border security, its growing counternarcotic activities and China’s attempts to increase its influence in Central America. They also addressed the importance of greater coordination and information sharing to address the flow of Central Americans migrating to the US.
“The Guatemalans have been a key partner of the United States in combating the challenges of human trafficking, drug smuggling and illegal immigration on our southern border,” said Hurd. “These are pressing problems in our backyard, and the United States needs to focus more time and effort on working with our allies in the Western Hemisphere, like Guatemala, on shared solutions. I look forward to continued collaboration between the United States and Guatemala as we progress on addressing these common challenges.”
