Votes for House Passage of National Defense Authorization Act

WASHINGTON – Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) joined his colleagues today in supporting the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2021, which determines funding levels and priorities for our nation’s military and national defense programs.

“Texas is home to more than 120,000 active duty military members and over 1.6 million proud veterans. The men and women who keep us safe are our country’s most valuable assets, and we have a responsibility to provide for them with sufficient resources, proper care and the pay raises they need, earned and deserve,” said Hurd. “Today’s bipartisan passage of the National Defense Authorization Act makes it clear to our allies and enemies our nation is ready to defend itself against terrorists, nuclear threats and other acts of aggression or hostility, while taking care of the service members who make enormous sacrifices for our freedom each day.”

Highlights of the NDAA passed today include:

  • A 3% pay raise for our brave servicemen and women in uniform
  • $740.5 billion to fully support military projects and personnel
  • Increased resources in the Indo-Pacific region to defend our allies and confront China’s increasingly aggressive foreign and military policies
  • Full funding for the nuclear modernization program that is critical to deter China, Russia and other adversaries
  • Increased funding for scientific research and development to preserve American leadership in technological areas such as artificial intelligence and 5G

The NDAA also provides funding for key priorities at bases in the 23rd Congressional District of Texas, including:

  • $64.5 million in funding for three critical military construction projects to support missions at Joint Base San Antonio
  • Efforts to ensure military personnel and their families live in quality housing and that private housing partners are responsive to resident concerns
  • Ensuring the Department of Defense has the diagnostic equipment, testing capabilities and personal protective equipment necessary to protect our armed forces during the COVID-19 pandemic
