Congressman Hurd Secures Vital Funding for Veteran Services in Huerfano County

November 14, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, Congressman Jeff Hurd (CO-03) announced that he secured $450,000 in Community Project Funding for the Veterans Enhanced Transportation Services (VETS) Project at Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center (SPRHC) in Huerfano County. This funding will enable SPRHC to purchase two new disability-accessible vehicles for the SPRHC Veterans Community Living Center, replacing aging buses that are past their service life and prone to mechanical failures.

Our veterans deserve safe, reliable transportation to access the care and community activities they’ve earned through their service,” said Congressman Hurd. “The current buses at Spanish Peaks are breaking down, lack air conditioning in 100-degree heat, and have unreliable mobility lifts that pose safety risks. This funding will provide vital access to care and restore deserved independence for the veterans who call this facility home.”

These new vehicles will provide safe, climate-controlled transportation for veterans accessing specialty healthcare services at the center, participating in outdoor recreation, attending community events, and taking historical trips. They will also serve additional patient transportation needs across SPRHC’s extremely rural service area.
