Congressman Jeff Hurd Highlights SBA Disaster Loans Available for Rio Blanco County Businesses Affected by Lee and Elk Fires
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Jeff Hurd highlighted the U.S. Small Business Administration’s approval of low-interest disaster loans for small businesses and private nonprofit organizations affected by the Lee and Elk Fires in Rio Blanco County. The SBA disaster declaration covers Rio Blanco, Garfield, Moffat, and Routt counties in Colorado.
Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million are available with interest rates as low as 4% for businesses and 3.625% for nonprofits, with terms up to 30 years. The loans can cover payroll, operating expenses, and other bills that businesses would have been able to pay if the disaster had not occurred. Interest does not accrue, and payments are not due for 12 months from the first loan disbursement.
“I’m grateful to the SBA for providing this critical lifeline to help the small businesses and nonprofits that are the backbone of Rio Blanco County’s economy get back on their feet,” said Rep. Hurd. “The Lee and Elk Fires caused tremendous damage to our community, and many business owners have been struggling to cover basic operating expenses. These loans will provide the working capital they need to keep their doors open and continue serving our neighbors during this recovery period.”
Beginning December 1, the SBA will open a Business Recovery Center at Meeker Town Hall to assist with applications. SBA representatives will be available to answer questions and help business owners navigate the application process. The center will be open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, through December 12.
“Business owners shouldn’t wait to reach out,” Rep. Hurd added. “Even if you’re uncertain about your eligibility, SBA staff are ready to guide you through the process and connect you with the resources you need.”
Businesses can apply online at sba.gov/disaster or call (800) 659-2955.
