Rep. Hurd Commends Advancement of Snow Water Supply Forecasting Bill

June 26, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Hurd announced that H.R. 3857, the Snow Water Supply Forecasting Reauthorization Act, was included in the June 24th, 2025, House Committee on Natural Resources, Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries legislative hearing.

“In the West, water is life, and we depend on an adequate snowpack to provide where rainfall cannot,” said Rep. Hurd. “We can say goodbye to the days of determining snowpack depth with a measuring stick. This bill reauthorizes a vital program that uses cutting-edge tools to forecast water supply and move beyond outdated, manual snowpack measurements.”

The legislation supports modern technologies like LiDAR and satellite imagery to create 3D models of snowpack, giving water managers more accurate data to plan and respond to drought.
